There are two areas on this beautiful promontory, the upper area, and the lower area. In the upper area, you’ll find fantastic views of the black sand beach, the huge arch in the middle of the ocean, puffins nesting during the summer, and a stunning lighthouse. The area has been protected since 1978 by the Icelandic Environment Agency because of its fragile flora & fauna. In the lower part of the promontory, you’ll also find a very picturesque area where a huge rock reaches up from the black volcanic beach. The rock is called “Eagle rock” and draws its name from eagles nesting there. In the background, you’ll be able to see the famous Reynisfjara and Reynisdrangar sea cliffs. It’s recommended to drive a 4×4 car to reach the upper area, the road is steep and it can be a little scary to drive up to the viewpoint. In the lower area, you’ll find a good parking lot. You won’t need to walk far to reach the viewpoints there. Drones are not allowed in either area.
