Snæfell or Snæfellsjökull is a 700.000 year old glacier-capped stratovolcano situated on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland. It is 1,446 m tall, 170 km2 and it’s surrounded by one of three national parks in Iceland. It’s the first national park to stretch from the top of a mountain and all the way down to the ocean. The park was established on June 28, 2001 to protect the unique landscape of the area, the rare plant and animal life and also the important historical relics around the mountain. Based on the popular book ,,Journey to the center of the Earth” written by Jules Verne in 1864, this volcano is the entrance to the center of the earth. According to scientists the volcanos last eruption was 1750 years ago.
